How we look after your information.
This privacy policy explains how iCare Insurance collects and uses personal information under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. Last updated May 2026.
1. Who we are
iCare Insurance is an independent insurance advisory practice based in Auckland, New Zealand, operating within the Financial Advice Provider (FAP) framework licensed by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). The "data controller" for the purposes of this policy is iCare Insurance. 2. What we collect
- Identification: name, date of birth, IRD number where required by the insurer.
- Contact: email, phone, address.
- Health & lifestyle: relevant medical history, smoker status, occupation, income — only what insurers require to underwrite your application.
- Financial: income, debts, dependants — to recommend appropriate cover levels.
- Website analytics: aggregate, non-identifying visit data (page views, country) for site improvement.
3. Why we collect it
To provide you with personalised insurance advice, prepare applications, communicate with the insurer on your behalf, support claims, and meet our obligations under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009, and the Privacy Act 2020.
4. Who we share it with
Information is shared only with parties needed to deliver the service you've engaged us for: the insurer(s) you decide to apply with, their underwriting medical officers if a medical report is requested, the FAP we operate under for compliance review, and our professional indemnity insurer if a claim ever arises against us. We do not sell or rent your information.
5. How we store it
Files are held electronically in encrypted, access-controlled systems located in New Zealand and Australia. Paper documents (such as signed application copies, where required) are kept in a locked cabinet at our office. Records are retained for at least seven years after the policy ends, in line with FMA record-keeping requirements.
6. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent for future processing, or complain to us or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. 7. Cookies
This site uses only essential first-party cookies needed to remember your language preference. We do not use marketing or third-party tracking cookies on this site.

We will post updates to this page when our practices change. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
