About Yvonne

Twenty minutes of honest conversation beats twenty pages of jargon.

I started iCare Insurance because too many of my friends — newly landed migrants, young families, small business owners — were buying policies they didn't really understand. Either they over-paid for cover they didn't need, or they were missing the one piece of cover that would have actually helped when life turned.

After working with several of New Zealand's largest insurers and licensed advisory practices, I went independent. That means no quota for any single company, no pressure to hit monthly targets — only a slow, honest conversation about your situation, your budget, and the trade-offs you're comfortable making.

I work bilingually in English and 中文. Most of my clients sit somewhere between two cultures and two financial systems, and the language we use to talk about money matters more than anyone admits.

  • Disclosure

Full Financial Advice Provider disclosure available on request — what I'm licensed to advise on, who pays me, and how complaints are handled.

  • Independence

Not aligned with any one insurer. I review the major NZ providers and recommend what fits — including 'don't change anything' when that's the answer.

  • Continuity

Annual reviews, claim help, and life-stage updates are part of the relationship at no extra cost.

Credentials

Licensed, disclosed, and continuing to learn.

iCare Insurance operates under New Zealand's Financial Markets Authority (FMA) framework as part of a Financial Advice Provider (FAP). A full Disclosure Statement, including licence details, the insurers I can advise on, how I'm paid, and how complaints are handled, is available at any time — usually before our first conversation.

Continuing professional development is required by the FMA each year, and I take that minimum as a floor, not a ceiling. Most of my reading focuses on changes to insurer underwriting in NZ, the way trauma definitions evolve, and where Southern Cross / nib / Partners Life / AIA currently differ in claims behaviour.
